Personal Grants

The City of Merritt’s Build Back Better plan for residents working on their home encourages homeowners who are able to rebuild to take advantage of the following personal grants.

Canada Greener Homes Grant through Natural Resources Canada – nrcan.gc.ca

Have an energy guide assessment done to receive a list of green options which can qualify you for $5,000 of federal funds  for green solutions in your home. This  can include insolation, windows, Photovoltaic systems (PST Exempt), heat pumps etc.

BC Hydro heat pump rebates for for fuel switching -bchydro.com

For switching a gas furnace to electric, you could get $6,000. This includes a $3,000 rebate top-up from BC Hydro, which is in addition to CleanBC’s existing $3,000 rebate. This means eligible applicants can receive a combined rebate of up to $6,000 from BC Hydro and CleanBC in one application while funding lasts.

Vehicle rebate, switching gas to electric – scrapit.ca

Can apply to damaged vehicles as well, up to $3000 towards a new vehicle (may be higher value than insurance is offering).

Disaster Financial Assistance

Disaster Financial Assistance (DFA) provides financial support to assist individuals, small businesses, and municipal governments in recovering from a disaster and restoring damaged property to its pre-disaster condition. This assistance is meant to compensate for sudden, unexpected, and uninsurable losses.

The Province has listed overland flooding in the Merritt area as a DFA “eligible event”, and Merritt residents may be eligible to apply for this assistance.

Rotary Club of Merritt

Red Cross

At the request of Emergency Management BC, the Canadian Red Cross is providing emergency support services (ESS) to eligible households. Visit here for information.

First Nation Emergency Repair Program

A First Nation or First Nation member living on reserve may apply for financial support. Financial support is available only for emergency repairs to your home that are needed immediately.
